The Westwood Whirlwinds will soon be in full swim, with interim practice beginning after Memorial Day. The Whirlwinds will be working hard to defend its 2006 Division Champion status, while ensuring the traditional fun-filled summer that all swim families expect!

To accomplish this, we have fabulous coaching staff to lead the way. Highlights of the staff are provided below:

John Dragelin ~ Head Coach

John has been affiliated with Westwood swimming since the ripe old age of 8!! He led the team to many victories and set many pool and league records along the way. In recent years, John devoted his time to supporting the swim team through various coaching positions. With John now assuming the Head Coach, the team couldn t be in better hands. John completed his second year at Columbia University.

Hunter Mimms ~ Assistant Coach

Hunter is a new addition to the coaching staff. He comes to us from Country Club of Fairfax (our biggest competition)! We are very excited to have Hunter and all the knowledge and enthusiasm he has for swimming. Hunter completed his first year at Amherst University.

Brittany Lutz ~ Assistant Coach

Brittany has been with Westwood swimming since age 5, and this will be her fourth year coaching. She started as a junior coach and has spent many hours instructing the younger Whirlwinds. Brittany completed her first year at Eastern Carolina University (ECU).

Mallory Lutz ~ Junior Coach

Mallory is serving her second year as a junior coach, and looks forward to another season working with and improving the strokes of the younger swimmers. She coached this past winter during our winter swim program at Sport and Health. Mallory completed her junior year at Paul VI.

Kayla O'Malley ~ Junior Coach

Kayla joins the staff as a junior coach and is no stranger to competitive swimming. She is an accomplished swimmer, and looks forward to sharing her love of the sport with the littlest Whirlwinds. She coached this past winter during our winter swim program at Sport and Health. Kayla completed her sophomore year at Bishop O Connell.

The team had a successful sign-up breakfast in April. In addition to the returning families and swimmers, 23 new swimmers joined, representing 16 new families to the team. Welcome. And, it s never too late to sign up. Simply stop by the Main Office or Pool for a sign up form and be ready to jump in.

The Whirlwinds are looking forward to a fantastic summer as they try to have a repeat of last season s fun ~ Division 1 Champs!!!

Go Whirlwinds!
